Why is SPHTM changing its core curriculum?

In October 2016, the Council on Education in Public Health revised its accreditation criteria for all schools and programs of public health. The US Department of Education requires all official accrediting bodies to review and update accreditation criteria every five years. The new CEPH criteria substantially change the approach to graduate public health education. SPHTM must comply with the new criteria in the next year.

Timeline to New Criteria

CEPH Timeline for the 2016 Criteria

December 1, 2016 – Official notification by CEPH of new 2016 criteria, mandating demonstration of compliance with the new criteria by December 31, 2018.

December 8, 2017 – SPHTM to submit ASPPH and CEPH annual reports.

January 9, 2018 – SPHTM must submit compliance report on how the school will comply with new 2016 CEPH criteria. CEPH provided schools two options:

CEPH 2016 Accreditation Criteria

In October 2016 the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) set forth updated accreditation criteria for schools and programs of public health. SPHTM must submit a plan for coming into compliance with the criteria by January 9, 2018, and then a report demonstrating that compliance by January 9, 2019.
